The 4th Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift has finally been launched in India. Priced from Rs 6.49 Lakh to Rs 9.65 Lakh, the updated hatch costs Rs 25,000 and Rs 37,000 higher than its predecessor. The new Swift gets a refreshed yet familiar design, more features, new safety kits and an all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine as well.

New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift – Highlights

Just like I mentioned before, the new Swift’s design is somewhat similar to the outgoing model with minor tweaks in the form of a new front bumper, reshaped headlights with fog lights, a redesigned radiator grille, newly placed rear door handles, new alloys and new tail-lamps with C-shape pattern. There are 9 exterior colour schemes on offer including 3 dual-tone paints, two new blue and red colours along with two accessory packages – Thrill Chaser and Racing Roadster.

The Interior of the hot hatch is similar to the Baleno and Fronx, which makes it more premium than its predecessor’s cabin thanks to the larger floating 9-inch touchscreen infotainment screen in the centre of the new textured dashboard. The seats also get new fabric upholstery, redesigned central air-con vents, a slightly modified analogue instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch MID and new HVAC switches.

The top-spec Swift ZXi+, will sport the mentioned touchscreen, a wireless phone charger, LED fog lamps, rear AC vents, cruise control, auto climate control, steering-mounted controls, a rear camera, push-button start/stop and power-adjustable and folding wing mirrors. Interestingly, the entry-level LXi variant is also fairly quipped this time with standard safety features like 6 airbags, ISOFIX anchors, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, ESC and Hill start assist.

Furthermore, the updated Swift’s wheelbase is the same at 2,450 mm although it’s 15 mm longer, 40 mm narrower and 30 mm taller.

Also, the Swift gets a new Z12E engine ditching the older K12 unit and thanks to it, the Hatch not only gets more efficient by 3kmpl but also ranks amongst the nation’s most fuel-efficient hatchbacks. Its 24.8 kpl to 25.75 kmpl mileage makes it more economical than the 1.0-litre models like the Wagon R, S-Presso and Alto K10. However, it still falls behind the likes of Celerio, Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder.

Talking about the engine specs, the new Z series is a 3-cylinder engine that comes paired with a 5-speed manual and AMT transmissions and generates 82 hp and 112 Nm of peak Torque, which is a drop of 8 hp and 1 Nm. Maruti further claims that the new Swift produces up to 12% less CO2 emissions, so that seems like a fair trade.

With the new Maruti Suzuki Swift starting from Rs 6.49 Lakh, it can be considered to be on the higher side of the segment when compared to competitors like Tata Tiago (Starting from Rs 5.65 Lakh) and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios (Starting from Rs 5.92 Lakh).
